Scott L. Carey is a founding partner of Bates & Carey LLP. His practice focuses on insurance, reinsurance, transportation, professional liability, tort, and insurance coverage litigation. He also counsels clients in claims administration, risk management, brokerage and regulatory matters, and functions as U.S. claims counsel for Bermuda insurers. Before entering private practice, he was the senior claims officer of an international professional liability/surplus lines underwriting facility.

Scott received a J.D. from John Marshall Law School in 1982; and a B.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater in 1974.

Scott is admitted to the Illinois and Wisconsin bars, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth and Seventh Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the American, Illinois, and Wisconsin Bar Associations, The Defense Research Institute, the Tort and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association, and The National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel.
