Maria G. Enriquez is a partner who focuses her practice on litigating commercial cases in the areas of general liability, insurance coverage, and reinsurance. She has litigated complex commercial cases involving pharmaceuticals, environmental, asbestos, hearing loss, chemical exposure, construction defects, repetitive strain, products liability, mergers and acquisitions, and reinsurance issues. She serves as national or regional coverage counsel for several commercial insurance companies.
Maria has tried several jury and bench trials involving insurance coverage for FELA hearing loss claims, environmental claims, and asbestos claims which have resulted in favorable verdicts for her clients. She has also successfully argued matters in state, federal, and appellate courts throughout Illinois, as well as in California, the District of Columbia, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, West Virginia, and Wisconsin, to name a few.
A few of Maria’s successful matters include:
- Goodyear v. Aetna (Summit County, OH) Jury trial resulting in a directed verdict in favor of clients
- Gencorp v. AIU Insurance Company (6th Circuit Court of Appeals) First “all sums” decision to mandate full settlement credit off-set in allocation matter.
- Outboard Marine Corp. v. Liberty Mutual (Lake County, IL) Trial resulting in a zero verdict for client which was affirmed on appeal.
- CSX Transportation v. Admiral Ins. Co. (Baltimore County, MD) Jury trial resulting in a zero verdict for client involving number of occurrences issue.
- Missouri Pacific R.R. v. American Re Insurance Co. (Appellate Court, IL) On issue of first impression, court rules in favor of no coverage for insurer client.
She has co-chaired Mealey's Annual Seminars and was a frequent speaker for the ABA's Insurance Committee Subsection. She has served as Co-Chair of the Products Liability Subsection of ABA Insurance Committee and Vice-Chair of the ABA's 21st Annual CLE Seminar of the Insurance Coverage Committee. She is currently Co-Chair of the ABA's Annual CLE Seminar of the Insurance Coverage Committee for 2010. She has been recognized in Who's Who of Insurance Lawyers and in Illinois Super Lawyers.
