Courtney E. Scott represents international and domestic insurers in cyber and privacy liability matters, assessing coverage as data breaches unfold and guiding insureds through breach investigations and the remediation that follows. She serves as coverage and monitoring counsel to these carriers relating to first-party losses as well as third-party lawsuits and regulatory investigations. With over 20 years in the field, Courtney draws on deep knowledge of the cyber landscape to stay ahead of the latest developments in the continuously evolving space.

Courtney also advises insurers in connection with coverage under management and professional liability policies issued to public and private companies. Courtney is known for her ability to work cooperatively and effectively with co-insurers, as well as insureds and their representatives, to address and resolve coverage issues, and foster effective and efficient resolution of third-party matters.

In coverage litigation, Courtney appears in state and federal courts as well as alternative dispute resolution (ADR) fora. Prior to joining BatesCarey, she provided coverage and litigation counsel on various liability and cyber matters at a national insurance-focused law firm.

An earlier decade as a commercial litigator in New York shapes that work – years spent defending corporate entities, their officers, and directors against securities class actions, derivative suits, and related claims. Courtney later managed claims for a Lloyd's of London syndicate, overseeing its directors and officers (D&O) claims and handling professional indemnity matters across a range of business classes. Having read claims from the insurer's chair and litigated the underlying disputes, she counsels carriers with both perspectives in view.
