Zelpha McGoldrick navigates legal matters on behalf of numerous insurance companies, focusing on complex coverage issues and contract disputes arising under commercial general liability and excess insurance policies. She advises insurers on coverage positions and defenses related to a wide variety of underlying claims, including pollution losses, bodily injury, toxic torts, sexual abuse, substandard housing conditions provided by landlords and opioid liability.
Zelpha earned her J.D. from the Chicago-Kent College of Law, where she was named to the Dean’s List across all eligible semesters and earned the CALI Award for the highest grade in two courses. During law school, she served as president of the Kent Justice Foundation, communications director of the Moot Court Honor Society and a teaching assistant for Evidence and Legal Writing courses. Zelpha graduated with her Master of Education from Boston University and her B.A. in Political Science from Johns Hopkins University.
Prior to joining BatesCarey, Zelpha worked for a boutique insurance law firm, first as a summer associate, then as a law clerk and a full-time associate. She also gained experience as an intern for the Maryland Office of the Public Defender, as a judicial extern for Justice Mary Mikva of the Illinois Appellate Court, First District and as a legal extern for a prominent law firm in Chicago.
